SANTIPUR, 23 JULY: A massive student agitation rocked Santipur Baganchra High School in Nadia today after a considerable number of students were unsuccessful in the Higher Secondary Examination.
The angered students put up a roadblock and gheraoed the headmaster-in-charge for about three hours demanding that their answer papers be checked again. They also demanded they should be declared pass after re-evaluating their answer scripts.
The agitating students said that they have passed in all subjects in the Madhyamik examination and they got admission in the class XI. In the class XI exam, they had also passed in the subjects along with they had properly submitted projects. “If the council considered marks of class XI results, how a large number of students declared failed. How will we be declared failed without an examination?” said one of the agitating students.
During agitation, the students also ransacked the vehicle of the headmaster-in-charge.
When asked, Dipankar Chakraborty, headmaster-in-charge said, “I have contacted the Council and they have asked me to meet with them on Monday. I have also informed them about the results. I believe that the Council will rethink the sad situation of the students.”
Mr Charkraborty said a total of 72 students out of 180 declared fail in the HS results which was unexpected. Among the unsuccessful students, most have failed in the English subject.
The gaurdian of one of the students said the “faulty results” were the fallout of “hasty and improper evaluation by the council.”
Expressing support for the candidates, a local resident said the hasty publication of results without proper evaluation will affect the careers of many candidates.
“We demand that the Council and the state government consider the sad situation faced by many HS candidates,” a BJP leader said.
