KRISHNAGAR, 6 APRIL: Hundreds of students of Kalinagar High School, today, put up a road blockade on the Goaldaha-Natunpara road under Kotwali police station limits, demanding immediate repair of the stretch.

Condemning the poor condition of road, the protesters demanded that if the Nadia Zilla-Parishad Sabhadhipati Rikta Kundu did not turn up and promise for immediate repair of the road, they would not lift their agitation.
The students said they had been demanding repair of the road for several months. “We had brought condition of the road in front of our school to the notice of the local Dogachi gram panchayat. But, the panchayat has not taken any initiative. The panchayat’s indifference to the issue has forced us to resort to roadblock,” said Barun Biswas, a student.

Hundreds of vehicles pass through this road. The commuters, especially students, are suffering everyday because of the bad road. Moreover, because of big-size stones laid on the road for years, the road is prone to frequent accidents and requires immediate repair,” Kamal Sarkar, a local resident said.
“It’s not a problem pertaining only to the students. Residents of the city, too, are suffering because of the panchayat’s indifferent attitude,” said Anil Das, a local resident.
