KRISHNAGAR, 15 SEP: In a scathing attack on the Trinamul Congress (TMC) government, BJP State President Sukanta Majumdar alleged widespread misconduct in cooperative banks and called for greater scrutiny into their operations. Majumdar’s remarks came during a public rally held at Bhimpur in Nadia, where he accused the TMC government of facilitating irregularities in these banks.

Majumdar claimed that the TMC government had allowed loans to be disbursed to its activists, but these loans were not repaid, resulting in significant Non-Performing Assets (NPA). As a consequence, he urged citizens not to deposit their money in cooperative banks and instead advised them to opt for nationalized banks.

Responding to questions about recent zilla parishad election losses, Majumdar alleged collusion between the ruling party, the district administration, and the police, suggesting that votes had been manipulated.

“We know very well how to bring District Magistrates (DMs) and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in their right path of administration,” he added, alluding to potential improprieties in the electoral process.

In a separate criticism, Majumdar took aim at State Education Minister Bratya Basu, referencing recent appointments of vice-chancellors in universities on a temporary basis by the Governor. He defended the Governor’s actions, stating that the Vice-Chancellors (VCs) had sought meetings with central cabinet ministers, and this should not be condemned as “bonded labor.”

Majumdar emphasized that all universities require permissions from the University Grants Commission (UGC), which is under the control of the central government. Therefore, the VCs were within their rights to seek discussions with the central education minister.

Addressing questions about possible political alliances between BJP and TMC, Majumdar refuted any involvement by his party in investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). He stressed that the ED operates under the observation of the high court and dismissed claims of an alliance between the two political rivals. Instead, he alleged that TMC leader Mamata Banerjee was forming alliances with Congress, CPM, and other opposition parties.

Majumdar also pointed out meetings between Rahul Gandhi and Abhishek Banerjee, referring to them as “pappus,” insinuating political maneuvering between the parties.

The allegations made by Sukanta Majumdar have added fuel to the already heated political landscape in the state, with both the BJP and TMC engaging in public sparring over various issues. The situation is likely to evolve as the political parties continue to vie for dominance in the region.
