KRISHNAGAR, 29 JAN: In a horrifying case, a teenage girl was allegedly molested by a group of youths and thrown out of a running train. The incident occurred at Naba Raynagar station under Ranaghat-Bonga section of eastern railway under Gangnapore police station limits in Nadia at around 9.15 pm on Friday.
The girl survived but suffered serious injuries. She has been admitted to the Kalyani Jawahar Lal Nehru Memorial Hospital and she is currently struggling for her life.
A few days ago such an incident took place in Dumdum on the running down Santipur Local train. The complainant shared the whole incident on Facebook Live. A defamation suit was filed against Dumdum GRP. Police identified the accused and arrested him after watching CCTV camera footage.
In the latest incident, police have arrested a youth identified as Dilip Talukdar and he was produced before the Ranaghat ACJM court today. On hearing pleas, the magistrate remanded him in police custody for five days.
According to the police, the girl was returning home in the Ranaghat-Bangaon Local. She boarded the train from Ranaghat station and she was travelling in the woman’s compartment. Soon after the train left the Ranaghat station two youths allegedly started teasing her and tried to molest her. She then called her relative and started protesting the attack on her. The culprits then pushed her out of the running train when it was reaching the Naba Raynagar station. The railway police arrested a youth but another one managed to escape the scene.
The victim’s mother has lodged a complaint with the Gangnapore police saying that her daughter works at an Industrial unit in Kalyani. She was returning in the Ranaghat-Bangaon Local at around 9.10 when two youths attacked her. They threw her out of the running train and she was found lying in a drain. As her injuries was critical, she was immediately admitted to the JNM hospital.
