KRISHNAGAR, 27 JULY: In a remarkable display of community policing and environmental stewardship, the Jalangi River cleaning program witnessed active participation from several notable figures and local volunteers. The Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Tehatta, Mr. Subhotosh Sarkar, led the initiative along with the Inspector-in-Charge, Mr Abhijit Biswas, and other dedicated officers from the Tehatta Police Station.
Joining forces with civic volunteers and coordinating closely with the Ghat workers, the police team undertook the task of clearing the river of water hyacinth, a prevalent aquatic weed that impedes the natural flow and health of the river. The concerted effort not only revitalized the river but also underscored the importance of community collaboration in tackling environmental challenges.
Mr. Sarkar expressed his appreciation for the volunteers’ enthusiasm and dedication, highlighting the significance of community involvement in maintaining public spaces. “The Jalangi River is an integral part of our ecosystem and heritage. It is heartening to see the community come together to preserve its beauty and functionality,” he said.
Inspector Mr Abhijit Biswas echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the role of such initiatives in fostering a sense of shared responsibility and unity. “Today’s effort is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together. It is not just about cleaning a river; it’s about nurturing a community spirit and protecting our environment for future generations.”
A senior police officer said “The Jalangi River cleaning program is a shining example of how community policing can extend beyond traditional law enforcement to include proactive measures for environmental sustainability. It sets a precedent for future initiatives aimed at fostering community engagement and environmental responsibility.”
