The theft came to light when the traders came to open their shops and found the shutters of their respective shops open and cash with materials missing.

Two days ago, the area was tensed after a man opened fire and set a shop on fire over a dispute related with land selling. Locals put up a road blockade on the state highway demanding arrest of the accused. The Kotwali police, however, arrested the accused person within 24 hours.

But, today’s incident has overwhelmed the traders who alleged that police did not convene any patrolling in the market area in the night.

Manikanta Biswas, a trader said, “I don’t know who theft the shops. In recent past, no theft like incident happened. Two days ago, a shop was set afire by a person but police arrested him. A total of 11 shops were looted. I have lost Rs 2000 and a set of shirts and pants which were kept in my shop was taken away.”

Police said, “We have received information about the theft and a team has already visited the site. But, no one has lodged complaint with us yet.”
