KRISHNAGAR, 19 APRIL: Special Operation Group (SOG) of Krishnagar Police District and Krishnagar Cyber Crime Police station in a joint operation arrested three persons for allegedly running an IPL betting racket.
Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Inspector-in-Charge of Krishnagar Cyber Crime Police Station said they have seized two mobile phones, some amount of cash and a SUV vehicle from them. The arrested persons have been identified as Satyajit Nag, Mrityunjay Verma and Goutam Das, all residents of Santipur.

Acting on a tip-off, the police officials raided the area at Chaargate in Krishnagar and caught the accused red-handed. The accused persons were then betting on a match between Rajasthan Royals and KKR teams on Monday, Mr Gupta said.
He also said that during the raids the accused sitting inside their SUV vehicle were found accepting bets through some illegal and unauthorized apps which are not listed in the Google Play Store. The accused also used some websites for running an illegal IPL betting business. Mr Gupta said the prime accused Satyajit Nag has revealed how they run the betting racket during preliminary interrogation.

“They first sell some apps to the customers for betting during the live matches in exchange for money. The customers when bet during the match, some amount will be automatically credited to the accounts of the accused. In this way, they earn lakhs of rupees during IPL matches. We have also found the accounts where transactions of lakhs of rupees were made,” Mr Gupta said.
Reacting to a question, Mr Gupta said the accused used MAXCRIC, ROYAL HUB, DREAM 444 apps while running the IPL betting.
The three accused were also produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Krishnagar where the magistrate after hearing pleas remanded Satyajit Nag in police custody for three days while two others were remanded in judicial custody.
