KRISHNAGAR, 11 JULY: In a nail-biting showdown, the Panchayat elections in Nadia district, have become the center stage for a high-stakes battle between the Trinamul Congress (TMC) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). With the Matua community’s influential factor on one side and intense factional conflicts between the two parties, Nadia district is witnessing a fierce electoral tussle. As the number of Zilla Parishad seats increases to 52, the question on everyone’s mind is whether the Trinamul Congress can retain its 2018 victory or if the BJP and other opposition parties will manage to unseat the ruling camp.
In the previous Panchayat elections held in 2018, the Trinamul Congress had secured an absolute majority in Nadia district. Out of the total 47 seats in the Zilla Parishad, the ruling party had emerged victorious in 45 seats, while the BJP managed to win only 2 seats. The Left Front and Congress failed to secure any seats.
This time, the number of Zilla Parishad seats in Nadia district has increased to 52, adding more significance to the electoral race. The preliminary results from the Gram Panchayat elections indicate a fiercely contested battle between the TMC and the BJP, with other opposition parties also in the fray.
Out of the 4011 Gram Panchayat seats in Nadia district, the Trinamul Congress has already won 2162 seats uncontested. As of 5:45 pm, the TMC is leading in 1182 seats, showcasing its strong initial performance. Meanwhile, the BJP is trailing closely with leads in 596 seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) is leading in 255 seats, followed by the Congress in 83 seats. Independent candidates are leading in 46 seats.
The trending results of the Gram Panchayat seats suggest that the Trinamul Congress is significantly ahead of the BJP, while the CPM and Congress are lagging behind. However, it should be noted that the final results have not been fully released yet. Although the Trinamul Congress is currently leading, the BJP is putting up a robust fight in the district.
To gain a clearer picture of the overall outcome in Nadia district, it is crucial to consider the results from the Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti, and Zilla Parishad elections collectively. The final results will determine whether the Trinamul Congress can retain its stronghold or if the BJP and other opposition parties can make significant gains in the district.
As the counting process continues, all eyes are on Nadia district, as the results here could have implications for the overall political landscape in West Bengal. The Matua community factor, along with factional conflicts between the Trinamul Congress and the BJP, adds an extra layer of complexity to the electoral dynamics in this fiercely contested region.
