KRISHNAGAR, 17 MAR: In a bizarre incident, the ruling Trinamul Congress could not form municipal board at Chakdaha and Haringhata municipalities in Nadia today while the winning councilors of these two municipalities took oath in presence of sub-divisional officers.
The district election officer informed the ruling party that they have postponed the formation of civic bodies at Chakdaha and Haringhata due to some undisclosed problems.
Ratna Kar, Trinamul Congress district president of Nadia South organisational district admitted the fact saying, “I don’t know why the administration has postponed the board formation process scheduled today. But, we have complete faith in the administration and we hope they will form the boards soon.”
When asked, Sekhar Sen, additional district magistrate (General) said, “I have heard that board formations of two municipalities have been postponed, but I don’t know the reason behind the postponement.”
Meanwhile, party insiders said the administration has postponed the board formation process to avoid the imminent discontentment among the party workers and supporters. The intelligence input suggested that a massive infighting between two warring groups inside the Trinamul Congress may erupt soon after the announcement of new chairman of the two municipalities. So, the district administration didn’t take any risk and they have postponed the board formation process, party insiders said.
Party insiders also said the party has nominated Amalendu Das and Debabrata Nag as chairman and vice-chairman for Chakdaha municipality and Sajib Ram and Rajiv Dalal as chairman and vice-chairman of Haringhata municipality. “But, many workers and leaders are not happy with the party’s selection and if their names are selected in the board formation process, they may get involved in clashes with rival groups,” said the party insiders.
