The All India Trinamul Congress has sought immediate action against the organisers and speakers of a ‘Dharam Sansad’ held at Haridwar recently, where hate speeches were made against the minority community.

Trinamool wants event speakers to be arrested.

Apart from filing a complaint at Jwalapur police station in Haridwar, AITC national spokesperson Saket Gokhale has also written to the Election Commission of India, informing him about the communal instigation being propagated in poll-bound Uttarakhand.

Held at Ved Niketan Dham in Haridwar, the ‘Dharam Sansad’ was organised by controversial priest and Hindutva leader Yati Narasimhanand Giri, where several speakers made inflammatory and provocative remarks, calling for the killing of people from the minority community.

He also asked EC to take note of polarisation ahead of polls.

The AITC national spokesperson has also written to the Election Commission, seeking free and fair elections in Uttarakhand. Gokhale claimed that the conference was also attended by leaders of the ruling dispensation, including BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay (who is recently out on bail in a similar hate speech campaign) and Mahila Morcha leader Udita Tyagi.

“Uttarakhand goes to polls soon. This communally-inciteful event co-organised by BJP was timed precisely towards influencing and polarising the upcoming assembly elections,” Gokhale mentioned in the letter to the EC.

Gokhale said if no action was taken against the speakers and organisers of the ‘Hate Conclave’, the EC must transfer all police officials, starting from SP (Haridwar) to the IG, Garhwal Range, and order Uttarakhand Police to initiate externment (Tadipar) proceedings against the organisers, preventing them from entering the state until the state elections are concluded.
