The MPs stated that it has been already reported in different national dailies and television regarding this meeting where Suvendu Adhikary against whom CBI and ED  are investigating in Narada and Saradha cases. The letter also stated that various eminent personalities tweeted on this clandestine meeting where Suvendu Adhikary was wanted in various cases like cheating, illegal gratification and bribery.

The MPs also stated in their letter that the meeting was fixed at Soliciter General’s House after Mr Adhikary met the Union home minister Amit Shah at his residence. Mr Mehta was the lawyer for CBI on both  Narada an Sarada cases. Mr Mehta even appeared for CBI at Calcutta High Court in Narada case.

Trinamul Diamond Harbour MP Abhishek Banerjee stated Mr Tushar Mehta’s efforts to dismiss speculations regarding his clandestine meeting with Suvendu Adhikari can only be valuable if he makes all CCTV footage public until Mr Adhikari was in his residence.

Moreover, was Mr Adhikari present in the Soliciter General’s (SG) residence without prior appointment? he asked.

Reports stated that Mr Adhikari entered Hon’ble SG’s residence in the presence of a cavalcade of officers and stayed there for nearly 30 minutes. Does that imply that a meeting was indeed due? Mr Banerjee asked.

As the episode gets murkier, one can only hope that the truth should surface, he said.

The Solicitor General of India is the second-highest law officer of the Country after the Attorney General of India and advises the Government of India and its various organs in crucial legal matters such as Narada and Sarada cases. Such meeting between an accused in grave offences, with the Learned Solicitor General who is advising such investigating agencies by whom the said accused is being investigated, is in direct conflict of interest with the statutory duties of the Solicitor General of India, said Trinamul Rajya Sabha MP and party’s chief whip in Rajya Sabha, Sukhendu Shekhar Roy.

“We have, therefore, reasons to believe that such a meeting has been organised to influence the outcome of matters where Suvendu Adhikari is an accused, using the high offices of the  Solicitor General. We state that the act of the Solicitor General to provide an opportunity of audience to Suvendu Adhikari not only reeks of impropriety but also raises the question of integrity, and taints the post occupied by the Solicitor General,” Mr Roy alleged.

In order to avoid any doubt in the mind of the public at large, as to the integrity and neutrality of the office of the Solicitor General of India, we approach you to initiate necessary steps for removal of the Tushar Mehta from the post of the Solicitor General of India,” the Mps stated.
