KOLKATA, 25 JULY: Before going to Delhi, Trinamul Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has already selected her Rajya Sabha candidate. In party’s tweeter handle, it is posted, “We are delighted to nominate Jawhar Sircar in the Upper House of the Parliament.
He has spent 42 years in public service and was former CEO of Prasar Bharati.
Before moving to Delhi, he was the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal and hold many important posts.
Miss Banerjee also posted, “Mr Sircar’s contribution to public service for so many years will help us immensely to serve the nation.”
Mamata Banerjee earlier said, “We have two seats vacant in Rajya Sabha, one after Dr Manas Bhuinya resigned from Rajya Sabha and contested from Sabang in this Assembly.poll.”
He won the poll and become Water Investigation minister.
The other seat after Trinamul Rajya Sabha MP Dinesh Tribedi dramatically resigned in Rajya Sabha just before Assembly poll making a statement in the Upper House that he feeling breathlessness in Trinamul Congress and want to resign. He later joined the BJP.
In the recent ruckus with the Centre with former chief secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay, Mr Sircar spoke in behalf of the Trinamul Congress government.
