TMC takes over Dogachi panchayat from BJP

KRISHNAGAR, 28 DEC: Trinamul Congress on Tuesday won the panchayat pradhan election of the Dogachi panchayat under Kotwali police station limits in Nadia by defeating the BJP with 16-11 margin.

The election was held amid tight security arrangement as there was tension in the locality. A large number of police contingents was deployed while no untoward incident has been reported till tonight.

Debashish Haldar has been elected as panchayat pradhan and Debjani Ghosh has been elected as upa-pradhan.

In the last panchayat election, BJP had won the panchayat with 16 members in their favour while TMC had 12 members. Soon after the massive victory of Trinamul Congress led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Assembly elections, five BJP members had shifted them to the ruling party. Trinamul Congress then appealed for no-confidence motion against the BJP-led panchayat and the BJP finally lost in the no-confidence motion to Trinamul Congress.

Today, the ruling party nominated Debashish Haldar as the panchayat pradhan and he was elected with 16-11 margin. In the meanwhile, one TMC member died because of the reason, TMC has 16 members.

The whole election process was monitored by the party’s town president Sisir Karmakar. The jubilant TMC workers smeared green abir soon after the victory.
