KRISHNAGAR, 22 APRIL: A Trinamul Congress worker was killed and another one sustained severe bomb injury after a group of alleged CPI-M backed goons attacked them at around 8.30 pm at Debagram under Kaliganj police station limits in Nadia last night.
Police said the deceased has been identified as Touhid Ali Sheikh while one Manirul Haque, who received bomb injuries, is now struggling for his life in Saktinagar district hospital.
According to the police, the victims were returning their homes on a motorbike when some criminals waylaid their bike and attacked with sharp edge weapons. They later hurled a bomb at them and fled the scene.
Local residents on hearing the sound of bomb blast rushed to the site and rescued them to the Debagram hospital. They were later taken to the Saktinagar district hospital as their conditions were critical where Touhid succumbed to his injuries.
Family members of the deceased alleged that Touhid and Manirul were the prominent Trinamul Congress workers in the locality and they had disputes with some local CPI-M workers. They suspect that the CPI-M backed criminals had attacked them when they were returning homes.
CPI-M, however, denied the charges saying that it was the fallout of the internal feuds with the ruling Trinamul Congress.
