KRISHNAGAR, 12 MARCH: The TMC held silent protest rally in Krishnagar on Friday in protest against the alleged attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Nandigram. The rally led by the party’s candidate cum Tollywood star actress Koushani Mukherjee and other senior party leaders were taken out from Krishnagar municipality.
Miss Banerjee was injured during campaigning at Nandigram, a center of the historic anti-farmland acquisition movement, hours after filing her nomnation papers on 10 March.
The protestors held black flags and marched around a kilometer. The rally finally ended at Post Office More where the party’s town president Sibnath Chowdhury delivered a short speech.
“We are here to condemn the attack on our leader and mass leader of Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. It is a pre-planned conspiracy, “ Koushani said.
She also informed that she would go to Kolkata to meet Miss Banerjee today.
Similar protests were taken out at Nandigram, where Miss Banerjee is in the fray against her former protege and BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari.
At Barrackpore in neighbouring North 24 Parganas district, film personality turned Trinamul Congress candidate Raj Chakraborty led the procession.
TMC had called for the protest from 3 pm to 5 pm in every block in the state during the day.
