KOLKATA, 27 MAR: Goa Trinamul Congress has decided to contest panchayat election in Goa. In a meeting convened by Trinamul national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee at his Camac Street party office, it was decided that Goa TMC will contest in panchayat poll.
In the meeting, it was learnt all 25 candidates along with state level West Bengal Trinamul Congress leaders were present.
Though, Trinamul Congress got only six percent votes in recently concluded Assembly poll, Mr Banerjee decided that Goa TMC will function like any other political party in Goa and will field candidates for Goa panchayat poll.
Apart from Mr Banerjee, Trinamul’s Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Deb who is also co-in-charge of Goa along with Saurabh Chakraborty who is also co-in-charge of Goa were present. Lok Sabha MP Goa TMC state-in- charge Mahua Moitra was also present at the meeting.
Apart from them, Trinamul’s state -in- charge of Haryana Ashoke Tanwar along with Goa TMC president and Rajya Sabha members Luziniho Falerio and Churchill Alemao were also present.
The party sources said that national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee made a thread bare discussion on Assembly poll results and provided the leaders with a e-mail address where they can send their complaints and suggestions too.
Mr Banerjee reportedly said from now on, Goa TMC leaders will have to be with the people of Goa in their needs and difficulty and work for them.
Those who will sincerely work for the party and help the party to choose the efficient candidates for panchayat poll, the party will give them due positions in the party.
It is also learnt that Mr Banerjee also sought report about debacle in Goa Assembly poll from those who were in charge.
