Police official said the deceased have been identified as Tentul Dafadar (36) and Bahiruddin Dafadar (37) of Dhaparia Dafadar Para.

The bodies were found lying on a field beside a jute farm near Patikabari school ground. One had gunshot wounds to his neck while another had stab wounds at his face, head and hands.

Local residents said it was gruesome killings and the assailants after committing crime fled the scene. The victims were triple-riding a motorcycle to reach Bethuadahari from Patikabari when a group of a dozen people gheraoed them. They brought them to a nearby field where they killed them mercilessly.

Kadar Dafadar, brother of the deceased Tentul Dafadar said, “At around 6 am, some Trinamul Congress workers made a phone call to my brother and asked him to go out from the house to attend a meeting. Later, I heard that my brother was found dead. Selim Sheikh and Ashok Dutta called my brother and I think that they have killed my brother because of old enmity. My brother was a member of Trinamul Congress”

Bahiruddin’s father said, “I have no knowledge about the murder of my son. He had no enemy. I was in my agricultural field this morning but he was to come in our farmland. Later, when he didn’t turn up, I came to my house and heard that my son was killed by some persons.”

Police said that they have initiated a probe into this twin murder. The preliminary investigation, however, suggests that they were killed because of their old enmity with some people.
