KRISHNAGAR, 22 MAY: At least two persons were killed and two others were injured in two incidents of lightning strikes at Ranaghat in Nadia this afternoon.
While a youth was killed and two others injured at Sibpur and another one was killed at Kayetpara under Ranaghat police station limits.
Police officials said three students took shelter at a make-shift hut beside a mango grove near Sibpur Ghat or Harabandh when a thunderstorm hit the area. However, the house was struck by lightning. The local residents immediately rushed to the site and rescued them. They brought them to the Ranaghat hospital where one of them was declared brought dead by the doctors. The two other victims are struggling for their lives in the hospital.
Police said the dead has been identified as Ayan Muhuri (16).
In another incident of lightning, one Rajib Pyke was killed after he was struck by lightning at Ghoragacha.
