NEW DELHI, 16 DEC: Denouncing Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s uncivilised personal remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India on Friday called it a new low even for Pakistan.
“The foreign minister of Pakistan has obviously forgotten this day in 1971, which was a direct result of the genocide unleashed by Pakistani rulers against ethnic Bengalis and Hindus. Unfortunately, Pakistan does not seem to have changed much in the treatment of its minorities. It certainly lacks credentials to cast aspersions at India,” Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Arindam Bagchi, said in a sharp reaction.
Noting that recent conferences and events have demonstrated that counter-terrorism was high on the global agenda, he said Pakistan’s indisputable role in sponsoring, harbouring, and actively financing terrorist and terrorist organisations remained under the scanner. “Pakistan FM’s uncivilised outburst seems to be a result of Pakistan’s increasing inability to use terrorists and their proxies,” he added.
The spokesperson recalled that cities like New York, Mumbai, Pulwama, Pathankot and London were among the many that bore the scars of Pakistan-sponsored, supported and instigated terrorism. This violence has emanated from their Special Terrorist Zones and exported to all parts of the world. “Make in Pakistan” terrorism has to stop, he added.
He pointed out that Pakistan was a country that glorified Osama bin Laden as a martyr, and shelters terrorists like Lakhvi, Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar, Sajid Mir and Dawood Ibrahim. No other country could boast of having 126 UN-designated terrorists and 27 UN-designated terrorist entities.
He said he wished the Pakistan FM would have listened more sincerely yesterday at the UN Security Council to the testimony of Anjali Kulthe, a Mumbai nurse who saved the lives of 20 pregnant women from the bullets of the Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab. Clearly, the FM was more interested in whitewashing Pakistan’s role, he added.
The Indian spokesperson said the Pakistan FM’s frustration would be better directed towards the masterminds of terrorist enterprises in his own country, who have made terrorism a part of their state policy. ”Pakistan needs to change its own mindset or remain a pariah,” he added.
Meanwhile, the BJP workers staged a massive protest near the Pakistan High Commission over Bilawal’s ‘butcher of Gujarat’ remarks against PM Modi. With placards in their hands, they raised “Pakistan hai hai” and “Bilawal Bhutto maafi maango” slogans.
The Delhi Police put up barricades to stop the BJP workers from marching towards the high commission. However, the protesters broke through the first round of barricades and began marching towards the Pakistani mission.
Lashing out at Bhutto, Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakashi Lekhi said nothing better can be expected from Pakistan as these are the persons who have butchered people in Balochistan.
“Normally that is not the way External Affairs Minister of any sovereign nation speaks. But it is Pakistan. What can you expect from it? These are the people who have butchered people in Balochistan. These are the people who have butchered people in Kashmir. These are the butchers of Punjab. These are the butchers of Karachi,” she told reporters.
Bhutto made the comments following India’s External Affairs minister S Jaishankar’s sharp attack on Pakistan over its support to terrorism at the United Nations Security Council meeting.
