KOLKATA, 23 JUNE: West Bengal Speaker Biman Banerjee while participating in a virtual meeting with other Speakers including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, complained about the Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar.
The Speaker stated, “Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar is trying to interfere in the administration of the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.”
A day after Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took oath for the third time; Governor is raising false alarms on post poll political violence, said Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, Trinamul Rajya Sabha MP and party’s chief whip in Rajya Sabha.
He said, “Governor is acting like a microphone of BJP. When Election Commission was in charge of law and order in West Bengal, then there was pre and post poll violence. But after Mamata Banerjee sworn in as chief minister, she has curved the violence. Many Trinamul workers lost their lives but the Governor is only concerned about the BJP.”
Earlier, on 30 December, Trinamul Congress Parliamentary Party wrote to the President of India about the unconstitutional activities of the Governor of West Bengal.
In the letter the MPs appealed, “In exercise of your power conferred under Artcle156(1) of the Constitution we respectfully submit you may graciously pleased to kindly consider for holding the office of Governor of West Bengal Jagdeep Dhankhar for serious breach of oath of his office.”
In the letter, the MPs alleged, “The Governor has failed to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution and repeatedly breached the rulings of Supreme Court From the highest Constitutional seat in the state, the Governor is inducing divisive politics just because the ruling parties at the Centre and the state are political opponents.”
The MPs also stated, “We had expectations that after being nominated to the post, the Governor would rise above the political past and act impartially towards different political parties. But our expectation was not fulfilled.”
