KRISHNAGAR, 22 DEC: Anna Bibi, an aged poor woman, probably won’t stand by anyone else for humanity. What she did ‘wrong’ was that she had given shelter to an injured youth who was beaten up by a gang of youths before seeking protection before her.
As a result, Anna Bibi and her family members could not live in her house at Dafadar Para in Krishnagar under Kotwali police station limits for the last three days as the youths have threatened her with dire consequences if she reveals anything about the incident.
The worried aged women and her family members are now staying in their relative’s house at Radhanagar and they have lodged a complaint before the police with an appeal to provide protection to them.
The incident occurred three days ago when one Trinamul Congress leader Babon Singha Roy’s brother was critically beaten up by a gang of youths at Dafadar Para. It was claimed that Babon’s brother and two others went there to protest the gambling which is being run by a group of youth led by one Biju.
The youth, Amit Das who reportedly protested against the gambling in the locality was critically beaten up by a gang of youths and he fortunately managed to run away from their clutches. He then sought shelter from Anna Bibi who instantly extended her support and gave him protection.
Anna Bibi and her family members even looked after him and they bandaged his wounds. Later, Amit’s brother reached there and rescued him to their house.
“Since then, the youths led by Biju are threatening us if we reveal anything about the incident. Worried about the incident, we then decided to leave the house and take shelter in our relative’s house at Radhanagr. I don’t know what I did wrong to give shelter to an injured youth,” said Anna Bibi.
Meanwhile, a group of women of Dafadar Para convened a protest alleging that a group of youths led by Babon Singha Roy are unleashing terror in their locality. Babon’s group even beat up their young members, alleged Papia Bibi.
When asked, Babon said, “They have raised false charges against us. My brother was beaten up when he and others protested gambling. The youths who beat my brother and two others are known as anti-socials. They run gambling and other illegal works in their locality. If we unleashed terror on them, then why didn’t they raise voice earlier before the incident?”
