KOLKATA, 15 DEC: Chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday lashed out at the Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating – “Whenever an election comes, the Prime Minister takes a dip in the Ganges, goes inside a cave in Uttarakhand. However, once polls are done and when people die during Covid, their bodies are thrown in the same Ganges.”
Addressing a huge crowd at Assanora, Goa, Miss Banerjee said she doesn’t become religious only before elections. “I follow my religion at all times,” she said.
She slammed the Prime Minister for depending on Hindutava to tide over the UP Assembly poll. She asked, “Who has given the BJP responsibility to decide who is Hindu or not?” She made this reference to Goa BJP who prior to her visit said that Trinamul Congress is not a Hindu party.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday said that the “sun has started setting for BJP in Goa”, where assembly polls are due early next year, and this “trend will continue and cover the entire country in the coming days.”
Speaking at a public meeting in where she formally announced the All India Trinamool Congress’s pre-poll alliance with Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party — Goa’s oldest regional outfit, Banerjee said BJP leaders are afraid of the alliance that we have been formalised in Goa. “We have done so to ensure that BJP is defeated from Goa and everyone has to unite in order to do that,” she told the crowd at state capital of Panjim.
The West Bengal CM said everyone should work together, irrespective of their religion and community, to “save” Goa from the BJP. “AITC is not here to control Goa. Goa is for Goans and the government in Goa will be of the people, by the people and for the people. My commitment is my credential. We haven’t come here to rule, instead we’ve come here for better governance,” she added.
On the issue of communal politics, Banerjee claimed she was a Brahmin too, “but I don’t need to get a character certificate from BJP. India is a secular country. Be it Hindu, Muslim, Christianity or Sikhism, I speak all religion’s language.”
Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the AITC chief said she doesn’t become religious only before elections. “I follow my religion at all times. Whenever an election comes, the Prime Minister takes a dip in the Ganges, goes inside a cave in Uttarakhand. However, once polls are done and when people die during Covid, their bodies are thrown in the same Ganges,” Banerjee claimed.
“Insisting that her fight isn’t with the Congress, Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee said the Congress party makes tall claims of fighting elections alone. But their electoral record of late has been extremely poor. “You fought against us in West Bengal polls earlier this year. At least fight against the BJP and then make big statements,” she said.

She said right from Demonetisation till date BJP did no good for the people of India and especially in Goa. She asked what the BJP has done for the fishermen, women and workers?
She said, Trinamool Congress has devised a strategy to penetrate the coastal state of Goa, which has been mired in factionalism politics, where politicians change outfits at their whim and alliances are formed for the convenience of the politicians’ benefit.
“We are not here to divide votes, she boldly claimed on stage, instead, we are here to unite voters. “If other political parties want to support us, they have to decide. We will fight the BJP, we might die, but we will never go back,” the AITC supremo said.
Insisting that the Trinamul Congress supports a multi-cultural and multi-religious state and is the only alternative to the BJP rule, Miss Banerjee, said that TMC stood for “Temple, Mosque and Church”.
