KOLKATA, 5 MAY: Holding Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee responsible for spreading rumour about CAA, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, today, said that Citizen Amendment Act (CAA) will be implemented in West Bengal soon after the Covid-19 situation is ‘completely over’.

Addressing a mammoth rally at the Railway Institute Ground at NJP in Siliguri, Mr Shah said, “Trinamul Congress (TMC) is spreading rumours that CAA will not be implemented, but I am telling you that after corona we will implement CAA.”
“CAA was a reality, CAA is a reality and CAA will be a reality. Nothing has changed,” he added.
Passed by the Parliament in December 2019, the CAA allows non-Muslim minorities in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan — Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian — to acquire Indian citizenship in order to escape persecution in their home countries. Under the Act, people from these communities who came to India before December 31, 2014, will not be treated as illegal immigrants but given Indian citizenship.

West Bengal was one of the states that passed a resolution against the CAA.
While referring to the recent incident at Rampurhat in Birbhum, Mr Shah also hit out at Miss Banerjee and said ‘didi’ burnt nine people alive in Birbhum.
Mr Shah said, “Mamata didi, you have been chosen thrice by the people of Bengal and we thought that you would rectify yourself but you have not. I promise that till you stop ‘cut money’ and violence, the BJP will continue its fight against you.”
Mr Shah is on a visit to Bengal in an apparent bid to boost the morale of the party leaders. On 6 May, he will attend the program of BSF at the Three Bigha Corridor in Cooch Behar. In the afternoon, the home minister will reach Kolkata and hold a meeting with party MLAs and top state BJP leaders.

“After post poll violence, human rights commission said that there was no rule of law here, only rule of ruler here. Over 100 murders, 1,829 injured and TMC people were involved in 161 cases. BJP workers don’t fear. No one will be able to stop us,” Mr Shah said.
“Mamata Banerjee has defunct the state financially. BJP’s fight against didi’s cut money, syndicate rule, torture will continue,” he added.
Earlier in the day, Mr Shah inaugurated the Border Security Force (BSF) border out posts at Hingalganj in Sunderbans area of North 24 Parganas district. He also flagged off a boat ambulance and inaugurated a Maitri museum.

While addressing the BSF personnel at the Prahari Sammelan, the minister took a veiled jibe at Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government over keeping the borders of Bengal free from smuggling and infiltration.
Mr Shah said that it was a challenge for the border guarding forces to deal with infiltration and smuggling without the cooperation and assistance of the local administration. “A political situation will soon develop where we will get all the desired assistance. Pressure from the people will result in cooperation from the administration,” Mr Shah said.
