KRISHNAGAR, 19 APRIL: The special court for Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) in Krishnagar sentenced a 24-year-old youth to 10 years in rigorous imprisonment for raping a minor on several occasions with the promise of marriage and impregnating her. A fine of Rs 1 lakh has been imposed on him and he will have to serve more one year of imprisonment for failing to pay the fine.
The judge also directed the state government to provide a compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the minor survivor.
Additional District Judge (2nd) of POCSO court, Sujit Kumar Jha awarded imprisonment to the convict Hasibul Mondol of Nangla MonglaPara under Nakashipara police station limits for the offence committed three years ago in 2019.
According to the prosecution, the youth had enticed the minor girl with a promise of marriage and raped her on several occasions. The girl, who conceived later, informed the matter to her parents. When the parents asked the youth to marry their daughter, the youth denied. The parents of the victim then lodged a complaint with the Nakashipara police on 20 January, 2019.
The police booked the youth under section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the POCSO Act and arrested him.
