KRISHNAGAR, 10 FEB: A 27-year-old youth was shot at by a gang of miscreants when he was riding his motorbike to bring his maternal aunt from her home at Arshiganj in Tehatta. The incident occurred at Nimtala Ferighat under Tehatta police station limits last night.
Police official said the youth named as Sourav Mondol of Iswarchandrapur under Palashipara police station limits was immediately admitted to the Tehatta sub-divisional hospital from where he was taken to the Saktinagar district hospital in Krishnagar. As his condition was critical, he was again referred to NRS hospital in Kolkata.
Police said the armed miscreants waylaid him near Ferighta and tried to snatch his motorcycle. When he tried to resist them, one of them shot fire at his arm from point blank range. The youth fell down on the road and the criminals fled the scene with his bike.
A senior police officer said they have initiated a probe into this matter and they hope the criminals would be nabbed soon.
