KRISHNAGAR, 21 DEC: In a landmark gathering that drew nearly 2,500 residents, the Trinamul Congress (TMC)-led Bhatjangla Gram Panchayat in Nadia has approved an ambitious development plan worth approximately Rs 6.5 crore for the upcoming financial year. The village assembly meticulously reviewed accounts from the past two years—Rs 2.5 crore in 2024-25 and Rs 3 crore in 2025-26—totaling an expenditure of Rs 5.5 crore, before charting out the roadmap for 2026-27.
The Gram Panchayat, holding a majority of 18 out of 30 seats, saw TMC wrest control from BJP-dominated neighbouring areas in Krishnagar-I block, with the remaining seats occupied by BJP (9), CPI(M) (2), and Congress (1). The assembly served as a platform for villagers to voice pressing civic needs, with demands for high-mast solar lighting, drinking water supply, concrete and black-topped roads, and covered drains topping the list.
Panchayat head Bablu Mondal assured the residents that the forthcoming projects would surpass the achievements of the previous year. “We will approach the next financial year with renewed vigour, ensuring that the most frequently raised demands—roads, covered drains, drinking water, and high-mast solar lights—are prioritised and implemented extensively,” he said, highlighting the administration’s commitment to responsive governance.
He also said the assembly reflected an active participatory model of local governance, demonstrating how rural voices continue to shape development priorities in West Bengal’s evolving political landscape.
