KRISHNAGAR, 16 NOV: Chapra police on Sunday intercepted a Krishnagar–Karimpur passenger bus and recovered 32 kilograms of ganja, leading to the arrest of seven people, including the driver, contractor and helper.

Acting on specific intelligence, officers stopped the Niluchandri-marked bus (WB 37C 5128) at the Baro Aandulia crossing early in the morning and began a thorough search.
During the inspection, police found a white bag concealed under a broken plastic bucket, inside which eight packets of ganja were packed. Two more bags carrying another eight packets were soon recovered from the luggage area. The total weight of the seized contraband stood at 32 kg.

Investigators said the ganja was being transported with the assistance of the bus staff. The driver, Pravas Biswas of Mahisbatan, the contractor, Bankim Biswas of Kachudanga, and the helper, Apurba Halder, were detained along with the alleged carriers — Taheruddin Mondal and Rajjak Hossain of Madhubona, Hamidul Islam Miya of Kupita, and Tariba Khatun of Kirtonia Para.
Police said the narcotics were seized following all legal procedures and a case has been initiated under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to track the supply chain and identify those behind the consignment.
