KALYANI, 1 DEC: In a powerful return to its academic tradition, the University of Kalyani today held its 31st Convocation, a ceremony marked by high attendance, institutional confidence and a renewed push for educational excellence. At the APJ Abdul Kalam Auditorium, West Bengal Governor and Chancellor Dr C. V. Ananda Bose inaugurated the event, setting the tone with an emphatic message on the growing responsibilities of India’s youth in a rapidly changing world.

Delivering the Convocation Address, Dr Bose underscored the rising responsibilities of the youth in a rapidly transforming world. “In an era of swift global change, the role of educated young citizens has become more critical than ever,” he said, adding that Bengal must aspire to excellence “not merely in terms of resources or power, but in its ability to positively influence the lives of others.” He emphasised that integrating values, creativity and technology into modern education remains essential for navigating future challenges.

The Chief Guest, Prof. V. Ramgopal Rao, Vice-Chancellor of Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), urged students to embrace teamwork and inclusive leadership. “Leadership is not about moving upward alone; it is about taking others along as you rise,” he said.
In his address, University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kallol Paul announced his intention to fix 1 December as the permanent date for future convocations, making it easier for alumni across the world to attend. Thanking the Chancellor for announcing awards for students, researchers and officials, he added, “We aim to place this university among the leading institutions of the state and the country. With collective effort, we have organised a smooth convocation within eleven months of my joining.”

After a two-year gap, the convocation drew enthusiastic participation from students, researchers and alumni. According to Controller of Examinations Dr Bimlendu Biswas, 69,992 undergraduate and postgraduate students received their degree certificates this year. A total of 306 research scholars were awarded PhD degrees, while 101 students received medals for academic excellence.
Registrar Prof. Debanshu Roy, faculty deans including Prof. Nilashis Nandi, Prof. Anirban Mukhopadhyay and Prof. Udaybhanu Bhattacharya, along with senior academicians, were present at the programme.
The 31st Convocation concluded with a renewed commitment to academic merit, values-based education and expanding the university’s national footprint.
