The Prime Minister’s visit includes watching day one of the final Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Ahmedabad with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The first in-person India-Australia Annual Summit will also take place during Albanese’s visit.

The visit marks the latest in a series of high-level engagements and ministerial visits between the two countries in 2022 and 2023. It is also the first visit by an Australian Prime Minister to India since 2017.
Albanese emphasized the importance of having a government that is representative of the population and named several women in his cabinet, including Madeleine King, the Minister for Resources of Australia, whom he is taking with him on the India visit.
