KRISHNAGAR, 18 APRIL: Basanti Das, councilor of ward no 19 of Kalyani municipality in Nadia and her party workers were allegedly physically manhandled by four miscreants while they were working in the ward office last night. Das has lodged a complaint with Kalyani police against the perpetrators.
According to Basanti Das, she was working in her ward office along with her associates when four miscreants suddenly entered the office. The miscreants started taking photos of them, and when Das protested, they began beating them up. The reason behind the attack is not yet ascertained.
When approached for comment, a senior police officer stated that an investigation has been initiated into the matter, and the miscreants would be arrested soon.
Trinamul Congress leaders in Kalyani condemned the attack on the women councilor and her associates by the miscreants and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.
“Incidents of violence against political representatives are a serious concern, and it is crucial for law enforcement authorities to take prompt action to bring the culprits to justice and ensure the safety of elected representatives and their associates,” said Amiya Das, a Kalyani resident.
