BURDWAN, 14 FEB: Amidst the continuing confrontation between BJP and RSS leaderships over selecting leadership in BJP’s organizational set up and selecting candidates for elections, the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is scheduled to camp in Burdwan town for three days to settle the issues. He is likely to arrive by Monday late evening, party insiders said, adding that Bhagwat will have a detailed discussion with the RSS senior office bearers from eight South Bengal districts.
Pradeep Chowdhury, the communication officer of RSS said: “On 15 February, Bhagwat will have a meeting with the RSS local heads from the 35 Wards of the Burdwan Municipality.” The Burdwan municipal polls are incidentally scheduled on 27 February and Bhagwat’s meeting before the polls, according to the BJP leaders are significant as the party in disarray here has recorded several infight in recent times and has failed to field candidates in every Ward. He may sit with some noted personalities from different segments of the society from different districts.
On 16 February, Bhagwat will address RSS leaders and Pracharaks from eight districts. According to the sources in Sangh, the working members of RSS’s allied organizations like Adivasi Kalyan Ashram, Viswa Hindu Parishad will also participate in discussions with Bhagwat in Burdwan.
Realising that making a straight penetration in South Bengal was extremely difficult before the 2024 General Elections, Bhagwat however has set to concentrate more on North Bengal where the saffron brigade has performed comparatively better in 2019 General Elections and 2021 Assembly Election. Bhagwat however had a two days quiet Bengal visit from 31 January before this 10 days visit to North and South Bengal incidentally.
Bhagwat, as the sources said would listen to the problems faced by Sangh preachers in the field in South Bengal. Bhagwat, after coordination with the members will explain the future strategy of Sangh to the local functionary. He is likely to prepare a road map for the expansion of RSS networks in South Bengal districts, the officials said.
